On the night of October 16, 2023, the life of 24-year-old Ronnie Keith James Crabtree, a White male from Roseburg, Oregon, was tragically cut short. Just after 11:00 p.m., dispatchers received a distressing 911 call about a man lying motionless in a driveway in the 100 block of Speedway Road. When deputies arrived, they found Crabtree deceased from a gunshot wound.
The investigation into the death of Ronnie Crabtree was swiftly undertaken by the Douglas County Major Crimes Team, a
collaborative effort of the Douglas County Sheriff's Office, Roseburg Police Department, and Oregon State Police. Evidence quickly led investigators to a suspect: 24-year-old Jacob Taylor Robinson of Winston. Robinson was soon apprehended and lodged at the Douglas County Jail on charges of Second Degree Murder and Unlawful Use of a Weapon.
Further details emerged, revealing that Crabtree and Robinson were roommates, living in an apartment situated above a business near where Crabtree's body was discovered. According to court documents, a woman called 911 after receiving a disturbing FaceTime call from a family member who was in a relationship with Robinson. During the video call, Robinson allegedly admitted to killing Crabtree and showed the victim's bloody body on the ground. When questioned by law enforcement, Robinson confessed to the shooting, claiming he shot Crabtree in the back of the head with the victim's own revolver at Crabtree's request. Robinson stated they had initially planned for it to happen inside their apartment but moved outside to avoid the mess.
