On October 29, 2023, a fatal shooting occurred at an apartment complex in the 4000 block of Liberty Road SE in Salem, Oregon. At approximately 6:25 a.m., Etrine Trent Shively, a 21-year-old Salem resident, forced his way into an apartment and shot and killed Antonio Castilleja, also 21 years old and a resident of Salem.

Witnesses reported hearing an argument followed by the sounds of gunfire before seeing a man, later identified as Shively, fleeing the scene in a vehicle. The witnesses provided a description of the suspect vehicle, which allowed police to locate the car traveling northbound on Commercial Street.

During the police pursuit, Shively shot himself, resulting in the loss of control of his vehicle. The car crashed through the property of two businesses at the intersection of Commercial Street and Southeast Royvonne Avenue, coming to rest against a Jack in the Box sign around 6:30 a.m..

Both men were known to each other due to their romantic involvement with the same woman, although the exact motive for the killing could not be established due to Shively's subsequent death by suicide.

The Salem Police Department's Violent Crimes Unit and Traffic Team conducted the investigations into the two fatalities. Commercial Street was closed between Boone Road and Hilfiker Lane Southeast for approximately four hours to facilitate the investigation.
