In the quiet community of Hastings, Michigan, a domestic dispute escalated into a tragedy that ended the life of 26-year-old Cheyenne Bowling. On June 11, 2017, the young woman was fatally shot by her estranged husband, Ralph Bowling III. At the time of the incident, Cheyenne, a female, had been seeking refuge at her mother and stepfather's home.
The situation turned violent when Ralph Bowling III broke into the residence. Inside, he first shot Nathan Farrell, injuring him in the neck.
He then pursued his estranged wife, Cheyenne, into the driveway where he shot and killed her. Following the deadly assault, Ralph Bowling fled the scene and proceeded to set his own home in Woodland Township on fire. He later surrendered to the authorities.
The legal process that followed brought a measure of justice for Cheyenne and her loved ones. In May of 2018, a jury found Ralph Bowling III guilty of first-degree murder, in addition to several other charges related to the events of that day. Subsequently, on June 26, 2018, he was sentenced to life in prison without the possibility of parole. The court also ordered him to pay restitution to State Farm Insurance and the Estate of Cheyenne Bowling, as well as various fines and fees.
