On October 19, 2024, 19-year-old Matthew D. Chaney of Springfield, Massachusetts, passed away unexpectedly. Chaney was the beloved son of Crystal Clark and Bruce Chaney.

The circumstances of his death were violent; Chaney was a victim of a gunshot wound. At approximately 12:35 a.m. on October 19, officers responded to a ShotSpotter activation in the 100 block of Nursery Street, where they found Chaney, who succumbed to his injuries at the scene.
