A quiet Indianapolis neighborhood was shattered in February 2023 by a tragedy that claimed the lives of a mother and her son, and ended with the suicide of the suspect, another family member. The victims were identified as 53-year-old Kimberly Ann Huddleston, a White female, and her 20-year-old son, Collin M. Huddleston.
The grim events began to unfold on the morning of Friday, February 17, 2023, when officers with the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department were dispatched to a home
on the city's southwest side to conduct a welfare check. Family members had been unable to reach Kimberly and Collin and were concerned for their well-being. Upon arrival, officers made a devastating discovery inside the residence: the bodies of both Kimberly and Collin. Both had sustained gunshot wounds and were pronounced deceased at the scene.
As the homicide investigation commenced, detectives quickly identified a person of interest: 35-year-old Steven Huddleston. It was soon learned that Steven was Kimberly's son and Collin's uncle. An alert was issued for Steven and the vehicle he was believed to be driving. The search for Steven came to a head on the evening of February 19, 2023. Officers located his vehicle and, as they approached, they heard a single gunshot from inside. Steven Huddleston was found deceased from an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound.
The motive for the double murder-suicide has not been publicly released by authorities. The incident left friends and the surviving family members in shock and mourning the loss of three of their loved ones in a senseless act of violence.
