On the evening of May 5, 2023, 26-year-old Jared Wininger, a male, was found shot to death in his Pendleton, Indiana, home. His roommate discovered him unresponsive in the residence located in the 5700 block of South State Road 67. When police arrived, they confirmed Wininger had sustained a fatal gunshot wound and was deceased at the scene. The initial investigation led authorities to seek help from the public, asking residents and businesses along a specific stretch of State Road 67 to review
their security camera footage for any signs of reckless driving or individuals on foot during the time of the murder.
The investigation into Jared's death eventually led police to Courtney Radford of Indianapolis. Detectives utilized DNA evidence and surveillance footage which connected Radford to the crime scene. During questioning, Radford admitted his involvement in the killing. The motive for the deadly encounter was determined to be an attempted robbery. Two years after the incident, authorities arrested Radford for his role in the murder.
In September 2025, Courtney Radford, then 25, faced a four-day jury trial in Madison County. The jury found him guilty of murder, robbery resulting in bodily injury, burglary, resisting law enforcement, and unlawful possession of a firearm by a serious violent felon. Following the verdict, Radford also pleaded guilty to a felony firearm enhancement. On October 22, 2025, a judge sentenced him to an aggregate of 77.5 years in the Indiana Department of Correction. The sentence included 65 years for the murder conviction, with an additional 10 years for the firearm enhancement and 2.5 years for resisting law enforcement.
