In a quiet, blue-collar neighborhood on the south side of Tucson, Arizona, the tranquility was shattered on May 12, 2015, revealing a scene of immense tragedy within a single-story home. For over two decades, the house had been home to the Carrillo family, but on this day, it became the site of a devastating murder-suicide. Raul Carrillo, a 58-year-old man, was found deceased inside, the victim of a violent act that claimed the lives of four of his family members before the perpetrator, his own
relative, took his own life.
The horrific discovery was made when a man arrived at the residence to visit a friend. Peering through a window, he witnessed a scene that prompted an immediate call to 911. When Tucson police officers arrived, they found a gruesome tableau. Five bodies, all with signs of gunshot trauma, were located in different areas of the home. Authorities determined that 25-year-old Christopher Carrillo was the individual responsible for the deaths of his family members before he turned the gun on himself. Along with Raul Carrillo, the other victims were 53-year-old Karen Saari, 32-year-old Erik Carrillo, and 17-year-old Isela Rodriguez. Neighbors recalled Raul as a man who spent a great deal of time outdoors, walking and sweeping, a familiar and peaceful presence in their community now silenced by this inexplicable act of violence.
