In the early morning hours of July 3, 2023, a confrontation at Perry County Memorial Hospital in Tell City, Indiana, ended in the tragic death of Tell City Police Sergeant Heather Glenn, a 47-year-old female, and the man she was attempting to arrest. The events began when a woman sought treatment at the hospital for injuries she said she sustained in a domestic dispute with 34-year-old Sean Hubert.
Sergeant Glenn responded to the hospital to investigate the domestic violence report.
After speaking with the victim, Sergeant Glenn and other officers began searching for Hubert. Later, the victim alerted hospital staff that Hubert was on his way to the hospital. Officers from the Tell City Police Department, Perry County Sheriff's Office, and Cannelton Police Department converged on the location. Sergeant Glenn was the first to make contact with Hubert and attempted to place him under arrest.
Hubert resisted arrest, prompting Sergeant Glenn to deploy her electronic-controlled weapon, which proved ineffective. During the ensuing struggle, Hubert produced a firearm and fatally shot Sergeant Glenn. Other officers on the scene immediately returned fire, shooting and killing Hubert. Both Sergeant Glenn and Sean Hubert were treated at the scene but succumbed to their injuries. As the sole suspect was killed at the scene, there were no subsequent arrests, trials, or convictions. Sergeant Glenn was a nearly 20-year veteran of law enforcement, having served with both the Tell City Police Department and the Perry County Sheriff's Office.
