In the early morning hours of October 23, 2023, the life of 36-year-old Devin Williams was cut short in a fatal shooting on the southeast side of Indianapolis. The incident unfolded around 6 a.m. at a residence in the 5900 block of Riva Ridge Drive, near the intersection of South Arlington Avenue and Thompson Road. Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department officers were dispatched to the home for what was initially reported as a self-inflicted gunshot wound.
Upon their arrival, they discovered Williams inside the house with gunshot wounds. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
As the investigation progressed, detectives determined that the evidence did not align with the initial report of a self-inflicted injury. The case was subsequently reclassified as a homicide investigation. Authorities with the IMPD stated that they believe all individuals involved in the incident have been identified, and one person was detained for questioning in connection with the shooting. Devin Williams, known to his friends as 'Dwill,' was a former student-athlete at the University of Southern Indiana and was remembered for his passion for basketball and his involvement in the local boxing community. He was also a devoted father. His death left his family, including his current partner and his ex-partner, TikTok personality Kelsey Pumel, in deep mourning. Pumel, with whom Williams shared a daughter, confirmed his death in an emotional video, expressing her grief and concern for their child. The community remembers Williams as a compassionate individual whose sudden and tragic death has left a significant void in the lives of those who knew him.
