In the small community of New Washington, Indiana, the life of 36-year-old Alvin Huttsell was cut short on the night of Wednesday, December 20, 2023. The fatal encounter unfolded in the parking lot of Sweathogs Bar and Grill, a local establishment where Huttsell was a regular customer.
According to the Clark County Sheriff's Office, surveillance footage captured a sequence of events that began after Huttsell exited the bar. A woman left the bar shortly after and entered a vehicle with another man who was waiting in the parking lot. As they attempted to leave, Huttsell approached their vehicle, leading to a verbal altercation on the driver's side.
The confrontation tragically escalated into an exchange of gunfire between Huttsell and the man in the car. In the shootout, Huttsell sustained fatal injuries and died at the scene. The other man suffered a graze wound, while the woman in the passenger seat was struck multiple times, with police believing her injuries were caused by shots from Huttsell's firearm.
The man who survived the exchange was the one to call 911 to report the shooting. He was subsequently taken into custody for questioning by law enforcement but was later released. The Clark County Sheriff's Office has stated that the investigation will be handed over to the Clark County Prosecutor for review.
