In a quiet Fishers, Indiana neighborhood, the life of 24-year-old Cameron Devon Doaks was cut short on the night of March 16, 2024. Just before 11:45 p.m., police responded to reports of gunfire in the 10000 block of Apple Blossom Circle, near Cumberland Road and East 141st Street. Upon arrival, they discovered Doaks with multiple gunshot wounds. He was rushed to a local hospital where he was pronounced dead.
The shooting occurred at a party being held at a rental property, which
neighbors suspected was an Airbnb. In the immediate aftermath, several individuals were detained by the Fishers Police Department as the investigation commenced. For months, detectives meticulously gathered evidence, interviewed witnesses, and reviewed surveillance footage from neighboring houses.
The investigation led to a primary suspect, 26-year-old Caleb Weis of Indianapolis. On November 5, 2025, prosecutors in Hamilton County formally charged Weis with murder, attempted murder, voluntary manslaughter, aggravated battery, and criminal recklessness with a deadly weapon in connection with Doaks' death. The following day, as Fishers police attempted to serve the arrest warrant, a confrontation ensued. Officers located Weis in a car near 91st Street and Masters Road in Indianapolis. During the attempt to take him into custody, Weis was shot by police and critically injured.
Court documents later revealed some of the details that led investigators to focus on Weis. According to police reports, Weis gave conflicting accounts of the events during interviews. He consistently claimed he acted in self-defense. In one interview, Weis allegedly told investigators he saw Doaks on the ground wounded and fired more shots because he feared Doaks might 'roll over and shoot' him. Prosecutors highlighted another alleged statement where Weis compared shooting the injured Doaks to putting a deer out of its misery.
