On January 28, 2023, a fatal shooting occurred in Oak Park, Illinois, resulting in the death of 31-year-old Rayshawn Hudgins, a resident of Chicago. The incident took place in the early hours of the morning, with police responding to a call of shots fired at approximately 3:42 a.m. near the intersection of Chicago Avenue and Lombard Avenue.
Hudgins was walking westbound on Chicago Avenue when he was confronted by a vehicle that fired multiple shots from an unknown handgun. The vehicle subsequently fled the scene, heading westbound on Chicago Avenue. Responding units found Hudgins on the ground near the north side of a garage on the 400 block of N. Lombard Avenue, suffering from multiple gunshot wounds to the chest. He was transported by ambulance to Loyola University Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead at 4:45 a.m..
The preliminary investigation by the Oak Park Police Department indicates that Hudgins was targeted by the assailant.
