On February 10, 2023, 21-year-old Demonte Mitchell was driving in Chicago's New City neighborhood when he suffered a gunshot wound to the head. The incident occurred around 5:50 p.m. in the 2100 block of West 54th Street. Following the shooting, his vehicle collided with two parked cars and overturned. Mitchell was transported to a local hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries a week later.
