On the evening of August 18, 2023, 16-year-old Khaaliq Williams was fatally shot in Chicago's Garfield Ridge neighborhood. At approximately 7:50 p.m., Williams was standing on the sidewalk in the 4400 block of South Lavergne Avenue when an unknown assailant opened fire, striking him multiple times. He sustained several gunshot wounds to his body and was transported to Mount Sinai Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
The tragic incident was part of a particularly violent weekend in Chicago, during which multiple teenagers lost their lives to gun violence. In addition to Williams, 14-year-old Rajon Harshaw and 17-year-old Ashuntice Wilburn were among those killed. These events highlighted the ongoing issue of youth violence in the city.
