On August 22, 2023, 25-year-old Darius Walker was fatally shot during a mass shooting on the 1500 block of South Trumbull Avenue in Chicago's North Lawndale neighborhood. The incident also injured a 15-year-old boy, a 27-year-old woman, and a 38-year-old man. The group had gathered to hold a memorial for another gun violence victim who had been fatally shot the previous day, just one block away.
