Tyrell Parks, a 30-year-old Black man and father of three from Chicago, was known to some by the nickname "1 Hell Rell." His life was cut short in a fatal shooting on the city's Far South Side in the fall of 2023.
On the morning of Saturday, September 9, 2023, around 8:04 a.m., Mr. Parks was inside a residence in the West Pullman neighborhood with a 31-year-old woman.
According to police, a known offender entered the home, located on the 12000 block of South Prairie Avenue, and opened fire. Both Mr. Parks and the woman were struck multiple times.
Chicago police officers responded to the scene and found the two victims. Paramedics rushed them to Advocate Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn for treatment. The woman was admitted in critical condition, but Mr. Parks was pronounced dead at the hospital. The Cook County Medical Examiner’s Office later officially confirmed his identity.
Detectives immediately began an investigation, which they described as "domestic in nature." A person of interest was taken into custody for questioning shortly after the attack. Following the investigation, a defendant was formally charged with first-degree murder in the shooting death of Tyrell Parks. As of September 2023, the case was proceeding through the court system.
