On December 16, 2023, Maurice Hill, a 42-year-old resident of South Elgin, was fatally shot in the parking lot of the Barrington Lakes Apartments located in the 2200 block of Hassell Road in Hoffman Estates, Illinois. Police, firefighters, and paramedics responded to the scene around 5:44 a.m. following reports of gunshots. Upon arrival, they found Hill lying on the ground with a gunshot wound to the face.
