On January 21, 2024, a tragic incident occurred in Tinley Park, Illinois, where a man fatally shot his wife and three daughters. The victims were identified as Majeda Kassem, 59, and her daughters Halema Kassem, 25, Hanan Kassem, 24, and Zahia Kassem, 25.

The shooting took place at the family's home in the 7400 block of West 173rd Street. Police responded to a 911 call made by the suspect himself, reporting that someone had been shot at the residence. Upon arrival, officers found the four women dead from apparent gunshot wounds. A man, later confirmed to be the husband and father of the victims, was found uninjured at the scene and taken into custody.

The incident was described as a domestic violence act by the police. Village Manager Pat Carr and Tinley Park Police Chief Tom Tilton assured the public that the scene was secure and there was no threat to the general public, as the incident was isolated to the home.

Majeda Kassem was remembered as a devoted mother and a strong advocate for her family and faith. She was known for her exceptional cooking and her influence on her children to follow their religious and professional pursuits. The twin sisters, Halema and Zahia, were nearing significant milestones in their careers, with Halema set to become a clinical pharmacist and Zahia being a talented henna artist. Hanan, the youngest daughter, was also praised for her intelligence and high goals in life.

An online fundraiser was initiated to honor the memory of the Kassem women by building a mosque in Africa, reflecting their family's strong bond and devout nature. The fundraiser highlighted the victims' kind hearts, professional ambitions, and their positive influence on those around them.

As of the latest reports, charges against the suspect were still pending. Police were working closely with the State's Attorney to gather all necessary information for an accurate charging decision. The investigation included interviewing witnesses and determining the involvement of another person who was inside the house during the shooting but was not injured. This witness was known to the suspect and had likely witnessed some part of the crime.

The community was deeply affected by the tragedy, with neighbors and friends expressing shock and grief over the loss of the family members, who were known for their intelligence, kindness, and high aspirations.
