Carrie Hudek Chiuso, a 33-year-old white female from Frankfort, Illinois, tragically lost her life on February 2, 2008, during a robbery at the Lane Bryant store in Tinley Park, Illinois. Carrie, who was a dedicated social worker at Homewood-Flossmoor High School, was remembered for her vibrant personality and her commitment to helping teens. She was married to Anthony Chiuso and was a beloved daughter, sister, and aunt.
On that fateful day, a man posing as a delivery person entered the Lane Bryant store in the Brookside Marketplace shopping mall. The suspect, described as a black male with medium to dark skin, approximately 6 feet to 6 feet 2 inches tall, with a husky build and broad shoulders, took out a .40 caliber Glock pistol and announced a robbery. He forced the women in the store, including Carrie Hudek Chiuso, into a back room, where he bound them with duct tape and made them lie face down on the floor. The suspect then proceeded to search through the victims' purses and wallets and the rest of the store.
During the robbery, one of the victims, Rhoda McFarland, managed to call 911 using her Bluetooth device, whispering the location before the connection was lost. The suspect, realizing the call had been made, opened fire on the women, killing five of them, including Carrie Hudek Chiuso, in what was described as an execution-style shooting. A sixth woman survived by playing dead after being shot in the neck and later provided law enforcement with a description of the killer.
The investigation into the murders involved multiple law enforcement agencies, including the Tinley Park Police Department, Will County Sheriff's Office, Illinois State Police, South Suburban Major Crimes Task Force, FBI, Secret Service, and NASA. Despite the detailed description of the suspect and the extensive efforts of law enforcement, the case remains unsolved. No arrests have been made, and the identity of the killer is still unknown. The families of the victims, including Carrie's, continue to seek justice and closure for their loved ones.
