On March 7, 2024, a fatal shooting occurred in the Brighton Park neighborhood of Chicago, Illinois, resulting in the death of 31-year-old David Villarreal-Zapata. The incident happened around 4:30 p.m. in the 3800 block of South Archer Avenue. According to police reports, two men, a 31-year-old and a 43-year-old, were driving southbound on Archer Avenue when a man inside a tan-colored SUV fired gunshots at their vehicle.
The victims' vehicle crashed following the shooting, and both men were taken to local hospitals. David Villarreal-Zapata, the 31-year-old victim, was shot multiple times and was transported to Mt. Sinai Hospital, where he later succumbed to his injuries. The Cook County Medical Examiner's Office confirmed that his cause of death was a gunshot wound to the neck.
The second victim, a 43-year-old man, was shot in the face and chest and was taken to Stroger Hospital. As of the latest reports, he remained in critical condition.
The suspect or suspects involved in the shooting fled the scene in the tan-colored SUV, and no arrests have been made. The Chicago police continue to investigate the incident.
