Gina M. Benfield, a 47-year-old resident of Elgin, Illinois, passed away on July 30, 2024. Her death was the result of a domestic-related shooting incident that occurred at a residence in the 600 block of Raymond Street in Elgin.
On the afternoon of July 30, 2024, at approximately 1:47 p.m., police officers responded to a report of a shooting inside the residence. Upon arrival, they found Gina Benfield suffering from an apparent gunshot wound. She was transported to a local hospital and later transferred to a hospital in Cook County, where she succumbed to her injuries.
In addition to Gina, police also discovered a deceased man within the residence, who had an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound. The preliminary investigation indicated that the shooting was domestic in nature.
Gina Benfield was a beloved mother to her two sons, Hunter Benfield, 16, and Steven Benfield III, 13. She was also the cherished daughter of Rosemary and the late Sterie Todorov, and a loving sister to Ken, Steve, and Tim Todorov. She had several nieces and nephews, including Steven Todorov, Jr., Ashley Todorov, and Ryan Todorov, as well as a great-nephew named Tyler.
Gina was known for her warmth and kindness, and she enjoyed spending time with her family, particularly her children. She loved outdoor activities and doing crafts with them.
A visitation for Gina was held on August 5, 2024, at Countryside Funeral Home and Crematory in Bartlett, Illinois, followed by a funeral service. Cremation was to be private. In lieu of flowers, the family requested donations to a GoFundMe page set up to support Gina's funeral and her children.
