Jaime L. Neumann, a 46-year-old resident of Warrenville, Illinois, passed away on Thursday, September 5, 2024, at her home. Born on December 1, 1977, in Aurora, Illinois, she was the daughter of James and Cheryl (Smith) Neumann and was described as a loving and devoted mother.
The incident occurred at the couple’s home on the 30W0-100 block of Mulberry Court in Warrenville. Warrenville police were dispatched to the residence around 11 a.m. on September 5, following a call reporting a cardiac or respiratory arrest. However, upon arrival, officers found Neumann lying on the floor of a second-floor bedroom, facing up at the foot of the bed, with evident trauma and blood coming from her mouth and upper chest.
Investigations revealed that Neumann had been shot multiple times, with six gunshot wounds identified, including injuries to her chest, face, right forearm, and left thigh. The forensic analysis indicated that she was shot while lying on the ground by someone standing above her.
Steven J. Kramer, Neumann’s 39-year-old husband, has been charged with two counts of first-degree murder in connection with her death. Kramer was denied pretrial release on September 7 and is currently being held at the DuPage County jail. According to court records, Kramer and Neumann had been arguing about tires, which escalated into a physical altercation. Kramer told police he did not remember what happened next after the argument.
Court documents also show that Kramer had called his father at 10:17 a.m. on the day of the incident and sent him texts saying “I love you” and “I need you to get the girls,” referring to their three minor children. The court has ordered Kramer to have no contact with his children.
The investigation has revealed that Neumann and Kramer had recently agreed to get a divorce, according to Neumann’s brother. The DuPage County State’s Attorney’s Office and Warrenville police are continuing the investigation, with Kramer set to appear in court on October 7.
