On September 29, 2024, Telley Palmer, a 29-year-old man from Columbus, Ohio, was fatally shot in Springfield, Illinois. The incident occurred in the 400 block of South Illinois Avenue, where Springfield Police responded to a report of several shots fired and a subject who had been shot around 2:30 a.m..
Upon arrival, officers found Palmer suffering from approximately 12 gunshot wounds. He was transported by ambulance to Springfield Memorial Hospital, where he was pronounced deceased at 3:35 a.m. by the emergency room staff, shortly after his arrival.
The shooting is believed to have stemmed from a fight involving multiple individuals earlier in the night at a local Springfield bar. Although the bar fight was physical, police had not been notified of the altercation prior to the shooting.
At the scene, detectives located about 35 shell casings from at least three different firearms, and one firearm was recovered. Ballistic testing is currently underway to further investigate the incident.
An autopsy was conducted on Monday, September 30, and preliminary findings confirmed that Palmer died from multiple gunshot wounds.
The death of Telley Palmer remains under investigation by the Sangamon County Coroner and the Springfield Police Department. Authorities are seeking any video footage of the shooting or suspicious activity from the area and are urging anyone with information to contact the Springfield Police Department or Sangamon/Menard County Crime Stoppers. As of the current date, no suspects have been identified or arrested in connection with this homicide.
