On November 9, 2024, Antonio Delgado was fatally shot in West Chicago, Illinois. The incident occurred in the 700 block of West Forest Avenue, where Delgado and another individual, Alejandro Rios, were found dead in a car, specifically a green Honda Civic. Both victims suffered gunshot wounds to their faces and chests.
The shooting was linked to a planned transaction involving the purchase of THC cartridges. According to prosecutors, Xavier Arevalo, 17, and Ivan Ramirez, 18, had arranged to meet Delgado and Rios for this transaction. Arevalo and Ramirez allegedly approached the car, with Arevalo entering the front passenger seat and Ramirez entering the rear driver’s side seat. Ramirez then announced that it was a robbery, and Arevalo proceeded to shoot Rios in the head and chest, and Delgado multiple times in the chest.
Following the shooting, Arevalo and Ramirez fled the scene on foot. Police later found Arevalo at a nearby hospital, where he was taken into custody without incident. Ramirez was also hospitalized due to a gunshot wound he sustained during the incident. Both Arevalo and Ramirez have been charged with two counts of first-degree murder and one count of attempted armed robbery with a firearm.
The investigation and subsequent arrests were praised by law enforcement officials, with DuPage County State's Attorney Robert Berlin emphasizing that such acts of extreme violence would be prosecuted to the full extent of the law. West Chicago Chief of Police Colin Fleury also condemned the incident, highlighting the senseless loss of life and the impact on the community.
Xavier Arevalo is scheduled to appear in court on December 9, while Ivan Ramirez will appear in court once he is released from the hospital.
