On November 9, 2024, Alejandro Rios and Antonio Delgado were found dead in a green Honda Civic in the 700 block of West Forest Avenue in West Chicago, Illinois. The victims had suffered apparent gunshot wounds to their faces and chests. The incident occurred during what was supposed to be a transaction involving the purchase of more than $1,000 worth of THC cartridges.
According to prosecutors, the meeting was arranged by two West Chicago teens, Xavier Arevalo, 17, and Ivan Ramirez, 18. Arevalo and Ramirez approached the Honda Civic, with Arevalo entering the front passenger seat and Ramirez entering the rear driver’s side seat. Once inside, they announced that it was a robbery, despite both Rios and Delgado being armed at the time. Arevalo allegedly shot Rios in the head and chest, and Delgado multiple times in the chest. Following the shootings, both suspects fled the scene on foot.
Police were called to the scene around 6:14 p.m. and found the two deceased individuals. A search of the car revealed two loaded firearms and several boxes of THC cartridges. Later, police received information about a gunshot victim at a local hospital, where they arrested Xavier Arevalo without incident. Ivan Ramirez was also at the hospital, hospitalized for a gunshot wound he had sustained during the incident.
Both Arevalo and Ramirez have been charged with two counts of first-degree murder and one count of attempted armed robbery with a firearm. DuPage County State’s Attorney Robert Berlin emphasized that such acts of extreme violence will be prosecuted to the full extent of the law, and both defendants will remain in custody until their trials. Arevalo’s next court appearance is scheduled for December 9, 2024, while Ramirez’s next court date is set for December 16, 2024.
