Clarence “Joe” Jordan, a 67-year-old Black male, was fatally shot on May 16, 2023, while at his residence in Grovetown, Georgia. The shooting transpired in the garage of his home located on Grove Landing Way.
The events of that day unfolded when his stepdaughter, Tasha Lawrence, arrived at the house, reportedly to deliver flowers to her mother. An ongoing dispute between Jordan and Lawrence escalated, at which point Lawrence went back to her vehicle and retrieved a gun.
She then shot Jordan multiple times. Witnesses in the neighborhood heard the gunfire and saw Lawrence departing from the residence.
In the aftermath of the shooting, Tasha Lawrence surrendered to the Grovetown Police Department. Initially, she faced charges of aggravated assault and possession of a firearm during a felony. However, upon Jordan's death resulting from his wounds, the charges against her were elevated to murder. Lawrence was subsequently taken into custody as the legal proceedings in her case commenced. The community mourned the loss of Jordan, and his funeral services were held in Sandersville, Georgia.
