In a tragic turn of events in Grovetown, Georgia, a four-year-old girl named Phoenix Daniels died after a self-inflicted gunshot wound. The incident occurred in her home on May 29, 2023. Following the shooting, she was hospitalized and ultimately succumbed to her injuries on July 1, 2023.
The investigation into the child's death revealed that her father, 24-year-old Daveon Daniels, had left a loaded 9mm Glock unattended on the floor of their home while he went to take a phone call. He reported to the police that he heard a gunshot and returned to the room to find his daughter shot. Along with a family member, he transported the child to the hospital.
Authorities discovered that the firearm had been illegally modified to be fully automatic. Daveon Daniels was taken into custody following the shooting. He has been charged with possession of a machine gun, second-degree cruelty to children, and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon. It is anticipated that he will face additional charges in connection with his daughter's death.
