In the early morning hours of Sunday, June 4, 2023, a dispute that began inside the Ten50 Social Club in Atlanta, Georgia, tragically ended the life of 27-year-old Lanel Nigel Singleton. Singleton, who was working as an off-duty security guard at the Main Street establishment, was shot and killed when the altercation spilled out into the parking lot.
The incident occurred at approximately 5:45 a.m., leaving behind a scene of violence and a community in mourning.
Lanel, known affectionately as 'Turnt,' was remembered by loved ones as a great person with a vibrant personality. His death left a profound void in the lives of his family and friends, a pain that was amplified by the fact that his girlfriend, Kaila Hull, was ten weeks pregnant with their first child at the time of his passing. The devastating news was delivered to Hull by another security guard who had attempted to perform CPR on Singleton at the scene.
In the wake of the shooting, the Atlanta Police Department launched an investigation, seeking the public's assistance in locating a suspect or suspects who fled the scene in a light-green Nissan Murano. The vehicle was described as having a bullet hole in the driver's side rear door and a missing handle on the rear passenger side door. While family members indicated that a suspect had been identified and that they were working with police, there have been no subsequent public announcements regarding an arrest in the case.
A vigil and balloon release were held to honor Singleton's memory at The Loft on Metropolitan Parkway, another venue where he had worked. Friends and family gathered to share their grief and celebrate the life of a man who was eagerly anticipating fatherhood. The investigation into the death of Lanel Singleton remains ongoing as his loved ones continue to seek justice.
