On July 6, 2023, 47-year-old James N. Mitchell was fatally shot at a Motel 6 on Victory Drive in Columbus, Georgia. The incident occurred around 8:58 p.m., and Mitchell was pronounced dead at Piedmont Emergency Room at 9:32 p.m.
