In the early hours of July 9, 2023, a tragedy unfolded at a gas station on Metropolitan Parkway in Atlanta, Georgia, that cut short the life of a 34-year-old Black/African American woman. Octavia Thompson, a resident of McDonough, was found by officers at approximately 1:00 a.m. suffering from a gunshot wound. Emergency services transported her to a nearby hospital, but the severity of her injuries proved fatal.
