In the early morning hours of July 9, 2023, a distressing discovery was made in a northwest Atlanta neighborhood. Responding to a call about an injured person around 8 a.m., police arrived at a residence on Mary George Avenue NW to find Charles Wright, a 41-year-old Black male, suffering from what initially appeared to be a head injury. Emergency services were unable to save him, and he was pronounced dead at the scene.
It was later determined that he had sustained a fatal gunshot wound.
The Atlanta Police Department's Homicide Unit immediately launched an investigation into the shooting. In the days following the incident, investigators appealed to the public for assistance in identifying a person of interest who they believed might have been involved in Wright's death. Authorities released images of this individual, hoping to gather leads that could shed light on the circumstances surrounding the shooting. A reward was also offered for any information that would lead to an arrest in the case. As of the latest available reports, the investigation remains ongoing, and no arrests have been publicly announced. The motive for the shooting has not been released.
