In the summer of 2023, a domestic dispute in Atlanta, Georgia, tragically cut short the life of 23-year-old Xzavier Tomlin. A Black male, Tomlin was fatally shot on July 23 at the Dwell at The View apartments on Hollywood Road in the city's northwest side. The incident unfolded just after midnight when police responded to calls of a person shot at the gated community in the Scotts Crossing neighborhood.

Upon their arrival, officers discovered Tomlin with a gunshot wound. Despite immediate medical attention, he was pronounced dead at the scene. Investigators quickly determined that the shooting stemmed from a love triangle. Tomlin had reportedly gone to the apartment of his former girlfriend and became involved in an altercation with her new boyfriend. The dispute escalated, culminating in Tomlin being shot multiple times in the back.

The suspect, who fled the scene after the shooting, was later identified as Jamario Richards, a 32-year-old from Riverdale. An investigation led to his arrest the following September. Richards was subsequently booked into the Fulton County Jail and faced a series of serious charges, including murder, aggravated assault, possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, and possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony. Authorities also charged him with unrelated counts of criminal trespass and damage to property from a separate incident on the day of his arrest.
