In the pre-dawn hours of October 16, 2023, the quiet of a Buford, Georgia neighborhood was shattered by gunfire. Responding to a 'person shot' call on Allen Street shortly before 3 a.m., Gwinnett County Police discovered a man inside a parked vehicle who had been shot. The man, identified as 35-year-old Quentin Jeremiah Cantrell, was rushed to a nearby hospital, but tragically succumbed to his injuries.
Investigators began a homicide investigation, canvassing the area for evidence and seeking information from the public. Initially, detectives announced they were looking for at least two individuals who may have been involved in the shooting. The motive behind the violent act remained under investigation as friends and family mourned the loss of Cantrell, a man remembered for his radiant smile and genuine, loving spirit. He was a graduate of Buford High School's class of 2007.
As the investigation progressed, authorities identified two suspects. In November 2023, police in Lexington, Kentucky, arrested 46-year-old Demetrick Davis of Versailles, Kentucky. He was charged with felony murder and aggravated assault in connection with Cantrell's death. Gwinnett County Police also secured warrants for a second suspect, 33-year-old Rodericus Jackson of Buford, on the same charges. While Davis was taken into custody, Jackson's whereabouts remained unknown at the time of the announcements.
