In the quiet town of Bronwood, Georgia, a grim discovery was made on Wednesday, October 18, 2023, shattering the community's sense of peace. Inside their home, 66-year-old Donna Sue Bailey and her 68-year-old husband, Gary Milton Bailey, Sr., were found deceased. The couple, who had been shot multiple times, were tragically found alongside their pet cat, which had also been fatally shot.
The a 66-year-old female, and her husband were discovered in the early hours of the morning, prompting an immediate investigation by the Terrell County Sheriff's Office, who soon called in the Georgia Bureau of Investigation for assistance.
The investigation quickly led to a suspect within the family. Gary Milton Bailey III, the 27-year-old grandson of the deceased couple, was arrested in connection with the double homicide. He was taken into custody and is being held at the Terrell County Jail. The GBI has leveled a series of serious charges against him, including felony murder, aggravated assault, and possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony. Additionally, he faces charges of exploitation and intimidation of an elder person, as well as aggravated animal cruelty for the death of his grandparents' cat.
As the legal process begins, the case file is set to be handed over to the Pataula Judicial Circuit for prosecution. While the investigation is considered active and ongoing, authorities have not released a motive for the tragic killings. The community has been left to grapple with the loss of a couple described as loving grandparents, with Donna remembered for her enjoyment of gardening, particularly her roses, and cross-stitching. She was a homemaker who deeply loved her grandchildren.
