In the winter of 2023, a violent encounter in Columbus, Georgia, tragically cut short the life of 43-year-old Demetrius Heard. On the evening of December 18th, police responded to a call of a shooting in the 500 block of Dirk Way. Upon arrival, they discovered Demetrius Heard, a Black male, suffering from a gunshot wound.

Heard was rushed to Piedmont Columbus Regional hospital in critical condition. For ten days, he fought for his life, but ultimately succumbed to his injuries on December ...
