In the winter of 2023, a violent encounter in Columbus, Georgia, tragically cut short the life of 43-year-old Demetrius Heard. On the evening of December 18th, police responded to a call of a shooting in the 500 block of Dirk Way. Upon arrival, they discovered Demetrius Heard, a Black male, suffering from a gunshot wound.
Heard was rushed to Piedmont Columbus Regional hospital in critical condition.
For ten days, he fought for his life, but ultimately succumbed to his injuries on December 28, 2023. Following his death, the Columbus Police Department launched a homicide investigation into the shooting.
