On March 7, 2024, 41-year-old Jessica Lynn Hatcher Thompson and her 17-year-old daughter, Julianna "JuJu" Denise Thompson, were found deceased in their Smithville, Georgia, residence. The Georgia Bureau of Investigation (GBI) classified their deaths as a double homicide. Subsequently, on April 9, 2024, 28-year-old Marcus Dontavious Butts of Preston, Georgia, was arrested and charged with multiple offenses, including malice murder and felony murder, in connection with their deaths.
