In Macon, Georgia, a dispute over a simple cigar purchase tragically escalated, leading to the death of 64-year-old Robert Pleasant III. The incident occurred on a Sunday in April 2024 at Gary's Shop and Save, where Pleasant was working as a clerk. What began as a routine transaction took a fatal turn, shaking the local community.
The conflict started when 25-year-old Edwardo Eugene Bigelow, Jr.
attempted to buy a cigar but was denied the sale by Pleasant because he could not produce identification. This refusal sparked a heated argument between the two men. The verbal altercation intensified, prompting Bigelow to walk out to his car, retrieve a firearm, and return to the store. He then shot Pleasant.
Emergency services were called to the scene, and Pleasant was transported to a local hospital for treatment of his injuries. Despite the efforts of medical personnel, Robert Pleasant III succumbed to his wounds and passed away on Monday, April 15, 2024.
Following the shooting, an investigation was launched by the Bibb County Sheriff's Office. Their efforts led to the identification and subsequent arrest of Edwardo Eugene Bigelow, Jr. as the suspect in the shooting.
