In the early evening of a Saturday in Lilburn, Georgia, a tragedy unfolded at the Tana Food Mart on Lawrenceville Highway, resulting in the death of 57-year-old Tigist Lulesegd. On April 27, 2024, a shooting shattered the peace of the Ethiopian food mart, leaving one dead and two others wounded. Ms. Lulesegd was fatally shot and died at the scene.
The man identified as the shooter was 62-year-old Teodros Shibeshi. Investigators have stated that Shibeshi was the former brother-in-law of Tigist Lulesegd. In addition to shooting Ms. Lulesegd, Shibeshi also shot and injured a 62-year-old male family friend who was an employee at the store. Following the attacks on his two victims, Shibeshi then turned the gun on himself.
The injured man and Shibeshi were both transported to a local hospital for treatment of their gunshot wounds. Following his release from the hospital, Teodros Shibeshi was taken into police custody and subsequently booked into the Gwinnett County jail. He has been charged with murder and aggravated assault in connection with the triple shooting. The incident was reported as the first homicide of the year for the city of Lilburn.
