Jalisa Abney, a 35-year-old Black female, passed away on May 2, 2024, after being shot the previous day at her business in Conley, Georgia. A resident of Stone Mountain, Abney was a driven entrepreneur and a U.S. Army veteran. The incident that led to her death occurred shortly before noon on May 1, 2024, at a truck lot on Moreland Avenue where she operated her businesses. A 37-year-old man was also injured during the shooting. Abney was transported to Grady Hospital after being shot in the head, where she succumbed to her injuries the following day.
Born on January 13, 1989, Jalisa Abney attended Mundys Mill High School and later Georgia Southern University. She served in the United States Army as an Electronics Maintenance Technician. Following her military service, she became an entrepreneur, starting a trucking company in 2021 and more recently a window tinting and car wrapping business at the location where the fatal shooting took place. Known for her compassionate heart and love for life, she was a member of Peace Baptist Church in Decatur.
The DeKalb County Police Department is investigating her death as a homicide. According to authorities, the suspect was known to the victims. While a suspect has been identified by law enforcement, their identity has not been publicly released to prevent them from evading capture. As the investigation continues, Abney's family and community are grieving their loss and awaiting justice.
