On a Sunday morning in Americus, Georgia, the quiet of a residential street was broken by a grim discovery that would leave a family and community in mourning. On June 16, 2024, 68-year-old Connie Calloway Anthony was found deceased in her home on Apple Blossom Lane, the victim of a violent act that also claimed the life of her husband.
Concern for the couple's well-being prompted a welfare check at their residence. When Americus police officers arrived at the home around 9:52 a.m., they found a tragic scene. Inside, they discovered the bodies of Connie Anthony and her 72-year-old husband, Clyde Neal Anthony. Both had sustained fatal gunshot wounds.
Subsequent investigation by law enforcement, which included interviews with family members, led to a somber conclusion. Authorities determined that the incident was a murder-suicide. Investigators concluded that Clyde Anthony shot his wife before turning the gun on himself, taking his own life.
Connie Calloway Anthony, born on December 27, 1955, was a longtime resident of Americus. She was a 1974 graduate of Americus High School and had worked for over three decades at Davison/Textron Collins and Aikman. Her death, a result of gun violence, left behind a loving mother, children, and a host of other relatives and friends to cherish her memory. As the perpetrator in her death was also deceased, there were no arrests to be made, and no outstanding suspects in the case.
