In a quiet northwest Atlanta neighborhood, the evening of June 23, 2024, was shattered by gunfire that claimed the lives of two young men. Jose A. Ozuna, a 21-year-old male, was one of the victims in what police are investigating as a double homicide. The incident occurred around 11:30 p.m. on Old Gordon Road, just outside the perimeter of Martin Luther King Jr. Drive.
Responding to a distress call, Atlanta police discovered a grim scene.
One of the victims was found inside a Toyota SUV, while the other lay beside it. Both Ozuna and the second victim, identified as 21-year-old Junior Vasquez-Mendez, had sustained apparent gunshot wounds and were pronounced deceased at the scene by medical personnel.
Investigators believe the shooting may have been the result of an ongoing dispute. According to Atlanta's homicide commander, it appears there was a conflict between the victims and another individual who has yet to be identified. Detectives have indicated that the gunman arrived at the scene, opened fire, and then fled towards Mableton.
As of now, no arrests have been made in connection with the killings. The Atlanta Police Department is actively investigating the double homicide and is seeking a white sedan they believe could be linked to the incident. Authorities are urging anyone with information to come forward and have offered a reward of up to $2,000 for tips leading to an arrest. The case remains under investigation as the community mourns the loss of the two young men.
