In the early hours of a summer morning in Sharpsburg, Georgia, the life of Joshua David Wimmer was tragically cut short. On June 29, 2024, the 32-year-old White male from Newnan, Georgia, was killed in a violent incident that also claimed the lives of two others before the perpetrator took his own life.
The events unfolded around 1 a.m. at a residence on Crabapple Court. Neighbors, startled by the sound of what they believed to be gunshots, placed several calls to 911.
When deputies from the Coweta County Sheriff's Office arrived at the scene, they discovered a grim tableau: two bodies in the driveway and another in the doorway of the home.
As law enforcement was securing the area, a man, later identified as 32-year-old Brandon D. Suckow, ran back inside the house. A single gunshot was heard shortly after, prompting the deployment of the Coweta County SWAT team. Upon entering the home, they found a fourth deceased individual, who was determined to be Suckow.
The victims of the shooting were identified as Joshua Wimmer, 31-year-old Parker Anderson, and 56-year-old Tina Sasser. The Coweta County Sheriff's Office subsequently identified Brandon D. Suckow as the shooter and classified the event as a murder-suicide. Since the perpetrator died at the scene, no arrests were made, and no charges are expected to be filed in connection with the case. The motive for the shooting has not been publicly released.
Joshua, known affectionately as Josh, was born on June 20, 1992, in Decatur, Georgia, and had been a resident of Newnan since he was two years old. He was remembered by loved ones for his adventurous and creative spirit. His professional life included work as a skilled welder and later as a kitchen manager for a local restaurant. At the time of his death, he was pursuing an entrepreneurial venture to start a microgreens business. A lover of the outdoors, Josh was in the process of converting a van for a cross-country journey to explore America's national parks.
A joint Celebration of Life service was held for both Joshua Wimmer and Parker Anderson on July 16, 2024, at SouthCrest Church in Newnan. Joshua's family, including his parents, brother, and grandparents, were left to mourn the profound loss of a man described as having a zest for life and an unquenchable spirit of adventure.
