In a quiet neighborhood in unincorporated Gwinnett County, the afternoon of August 14, 2024, was shattered by the sound of gunfire. When police arrived at the home on Josephine Road, they discovered the body of 28-year-old Jesus Anthony Hernandez, a Hispanic male from the Atlanta area. He had been shot at least once, his life tragically cut short in what investigators would soon suspect was a domestic dispute.
Neighbors reported hearing the shots around 3:30 p.m., a jarring intrusion into their otherwise peaceful day.
The Gwinnett County Sheriff's Office Fugitive Task Force moved swiftly, and their investigation quickly pointed to one man: 42-year-old Ruben Santos Auxume-Guerra. The very next day, on August 15, 2024, authorities tracked him to a residence in neighboring DeKalb County and took him into custody. The motive for the deadly shooting is believed to have stemmed from a personal conflict between Hernandez and Auxume-Guerra.
Following his arrest, Ruben Santos Auxume-Guerra was charged with a string of serious offenses, including malice murder, aggravated assault, and possession of a firearm during the commission of certain crimes. He was subsequently booked into the Gwinnett County Jail, where he remains in custody. While funeral services for Jesus Anthony Hernandez were not held locally, his body was transported to Mexico for his family to lay him to rest.
