In the early hours of a Tuesday morning in Northwest Washington, D.C., the life of 35-year-old Tierra Corbett was tragically cut short. On May 16, 2023, at approximately 1:26 a.m., police responded to reports of a shooting in the 1400 block of Fairmont Street NW. Upon arrival, they discovered Ms. Corbett, a Black/African American female, suffering from a gunshot wound to her head. Despite the immediate response from D.C.
Fire and Emergency Medical Services, she was pronounced dead at the scene.
The investigation into the death of Tierra Corbett moved swiftly. Shortly after the incident, the Metropolitan Police Department released a description of a person of interest. This led to the quick identification and arrest of a suspect. Later that same day, authorities apprehended 31-year-old LaRhonda Stewart of Southeast, D.C. Stewart was subsequently charged with second-degree murder while armed in connection with Ms. Corbett's death.
Further investigation revealed that Tierra Corbett and the alleged perpetrator, LaRhonda Stewart, were known to each other, suggesting the attack was not random.
