Brittany Lorraine Avery-Hoisington, aged 33, passed away on February 2, 2023, in Gainesville, Florida. She was born on July 24, 1989, in Kansas City and spent her childhood in Chanute, Kansas. Brittany graduated from Gainesville High School in Florida and attended the University of Florida.
Brittany's death was the result of a violent incident at her home.
Dallvion Jarrell Parker, 28, was arrested on February 10, 2023, and charged with the premeditated murder of Brittany Avery-Hoisington and Trevyon Sheppard. According to the police report, Parker knew Avery-Hoisington and had been to her home shortly before the incident. He allegedly returned wearing a hoodie and a mask, burst through the door, and shot Avery-Hoisington at close range. Parker then shot Sheppard at least once and fired at two other victims who were staying overnight at the house.
The investigation revealed that Parker's car was seen driving by Avery-Hoisington's home around 1:19 a.m., and he was captured on surveillance camera walking toward the house at 1:24 a.m. He left briefly and then returned wearing a hoodie and mask at 1:41 a.m., before fleeing the scene after the shootings. A neighbor reported seeing a black Nissan Sentra, which Parker owned, parked near the scene.
Parker was identified as a suspect after witnesses provided his name and identified him from a video posted by the Gainesville Police Department. It was also reported that Parker was the ex-boyfriend of one of the victims and had a history of being jealous and disgruntled.
The Alachua County Spring Term Grand Jury indicted Parker on two counts of first-degree murder, two counts of attempted murder, burglary while armed, and tampering with physical evidence. He is currently being held without bond and will face trial at a later date.
Brittany Avery-Hoisington is survived by her mother, Candice; father, Drew; sister, Courtney; brother-in-law, Michael; and many aunts, uncles, and cousins, as well as her beloved dog Lola. A memorial service was held for her at the First United Methodist Church in Chanute, Kansas, on March 10, 2023.
