Malik Jamar Hall, a 26-year-old resident of Williston, Florida, was fatally shot on February 5, 2023. The incident occurred while Hall was seated in his parked car in a driveway at 1111 NE 11th Drive in Williston. He was struck by three out of 16 bullets fired from a .223 rifle, with one bullet hitting him in the head, causing his death.
The investigation led by the Williston Police Department identified two suspects, Isaac Mitchell Williams, 20, and Kentavious Demarous Brown, 21, both
from Williston. These individuals were known to Hall, having grown up in the same community and even playing sports on the same youth teams, although Hall was slightly older than the two suspects.
Williams turned himself in on February 27, 2023, while Brown was taken into custody by U.S. Marshals on March 3, 2023. Both men were indicted by the Levy County Spring Grand Jury on charges of first-degree murder – premeditated. The grand jury issued a true bill against Brown and Williams, each facing one count of first-degree murder.
The murder is believed to have involved a white Ford car that drove away from the scene, and the suspect vehicle was later found abandoned at Cabana Beach Apartments in Gainesville. The police are still investigating the details of the case, including whether the shooting was a drive-by or if the shooters were on foot.
The case is significant not only due to its severity but also because of its impact on the community. According to Williston Police Chief Mike Rolls, the murder has torn families apart in Williston, and he emphasized that such violent actions have far-reaching consequences affecting not just the individuals involved but also the broader community.
As of the current date, the case is ongoing, with Brown and Williams awaiting trial for their alleged roles in Hall's murder. In Florida, premeditated first-degree murder is a capital offense punishable by the death penalty or life in prison without the possibility of parole upon conviction.
