On the night of March 24, 2023, a fatal shooting occurred in an open lot frequently used for parking semi-trailers, located at 10500 NW 138th St. in Hialeah Gardens, Florida. The victim, 41-year-old Albert Pina, was found dead at the scene by Miami-Dade Fire Rescue personnel after a truck he was driving had crashed. Police officers from the Hialeah Gardens Police Department responded to the call and discovered Pina had been shot.
The suspect in the case, Roberto Aveille Rodriguez, 34, from Hialeah, was identified by authorities. Rodriguez had attempted to flee the area and was believed to be trying to leave the U.S. through the Texas-Mexico border with the intention of fleeing to Cuba. However, he surrendered to authorities in Hendry County on Sunday, March 26, 2023.
Rodriguez faces a second-degree murder charge in connection with Pina's death. According to his arrest warrant, a woman contacted police and reported that Rodriguez had told her he had gotten into an argument with Pina before shooting him. The motive for the shooting remains unclear.
Following his surrender, Rodriguez was transferred to the Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center in Miami-Dade County, where he is being held without bond. The case involves ongoing legal proceedings, with Rodriguez currently in custody awaiting trial for the second-degree murder charge.
