On June 25, 2023, Melbourne Police responded to a domestic violence call involving Ronald Gordon and his girlfriend. The girlfriend reported that Gordon attacked her and attempted to rip a necklace from her neck. In response, she retrieved a firearm and shot Gordon, who then fled the scene. Gordon contacted the police stating he had been shot but became unresponsive when officers arrived.
