On August 6, 2023, a 19-year-old male named Amaurio Sledge was found deceased at the Advenir at The Oaks apartment complex in Ocoee, Florida. The discovery was made around 1:45 a.m. following reports of gunfire on the premises. Sledge's body was located at the rear of the apartment complex, which is situated on Old Winter Garden Road between Blackwood and South Bluford avenues.
Witnesses reported seeing a dark vehicle with multiple passengers leaving the area around the time of the incident. However, initial reports indicated that no arrests had been made at that time.
Subsequent investigations led to the arrest of a suspect. On August 20, 2023, Ocoee police announced that they had arrested 20-year-old Amarien Shamar in connection with Sledge's death. According to the police, Shamar and the victim knew each other, and the shooting did not appear to be a random act. Shamar was arrested within the first 48 hours of the investigation, with assistance from the Orange County Sheriff’s Office, the Florida Department of Law Enforcement, and the State Attorney’s Office.
Despite the arrest, the investigation remained ongoing, and authorities continued to seek information from the public. Anyone with relevant information was encouraged to contact Central Florida Crimeline.
