On September 24, 2023, a shooting incident occurred in Lauderhill, Florida, resulting in the death of 20-year-old Brandon Spells and injuries to two other individuals. The Lauderhill Police Department responded to a 911 call at approximately 10 p.m. on University Drive, where they found Brandon Spells with gunshot wounds to his arm and leg, lying behind a business at 5001 N. University Dr..
Upon investigation, police discovered a gray car covered in bullet holes, which was subsequently towed away. At a nearby location, 5200 N. University Dr., officers found another man suffering from multiple gunshot wounds near a vehicle. This individual was pronounced dead at the scene. A third victim, an adult woman, sought treatment for a gunshot wound to her leg at the Florida Medical Center and was later transported to Broward Health Fort Lauderdale along with the other surviving victim, Brandon Spells, who unfortunately did not survive his injuries.
The Lauderhill Police Department’s Criminal Investigation Division (CID) and Crime Scene Investigation (CSI) took control of the case. As of the current date, the motive behind the shooting remains unknown, and no suspects have been identified. The police are actively seeking information and urge anyone with knowledge about the incident to come forward. A reward of up to $5,000 is being offered for information leading to an arrest in this fatal shooting.
This incident was part of a series of shootings in Lauderhill during September 2023, which included another double shooting on September 25 that left one man dead and another injured. The city has seen a concerning increase in gun violence, with four separate shooting incidents resulting in nine victims and the deaths of three individuals due to these acts of violence.
